　さらに、アニメのユーザーのスタンスも大きな違いがある。日本でも顕著になりつつあることだが、「カネを出すから良質なもの」を求める層と「安く（あるいはタダで）見られるのならば質は問わない」という層が存在し、後者は徐々に拡大しつつある。その象徴ともいうべきものが、「クランチロール（Crunchyroll）」や「フールー（HULU）」に代表されるストリーミングサービス（いわば、著作権処理をクリアした合法的なファンサブ）の拡大だ。

　こうしたストリーミングサービスでは、日本で放映されたテレビアニメが、ほぼ時間差なく配信されるようになっている。もちろん、画質は荒いし、何よりも翻訳の質は最悪だ。だが、翻訳の質よりも、”早く見ることができる”ほうがニーズがあるのが現状。そして、ソフト化の際にも翻訳を改善することなどせず、そのまま流用している。それでも多くのユーザーのニーズを満たすことができているのだ。結果、まず干上がりかけているのはアニメの翻訳家たちだ。
